I'm going to Sequoia National Forest in April. I want to rent a Porsche but my friends tell me to get a Jeep. Will I regret not getting the Porsche?? Has anyone driven around the park before? Which is best?? I mean just LOOK at this road!!!!

I doubt they'll let you far enough of road that the Jeep will be of any advantage, though I could be wrong. The only problem with the Porsche would be inclination to drive too fast to experience the park at its best. That being said, the ability to feel any and all bumps in the road while traveling along smoothly and quietly might be ideal. Bumps are interesting. Most modern Porsches are very smooth and quiet at low speed, hard suspension notwithstanding.

There is something to be said for both, but the roads have lots of curves, windback turns, etc. But, as RamblinRover mentioned, the park is also amazingly beautiful so you don't want to traverse it too quickly, either. That being said, get a convertible Porsche. LOL

Let me forewarn you, park rangers are no joke about the speed limit in national forests. You aren't going to take it much past a dirt parking lot so as RR says no big advantage Jeep. Watch out for Federal cops though if you take the Porsche.

To follow up, by the way, I drove it in a Chrysler T&C with a full load of passengers and it was entertaining, despite the horrible gearbox in that thing and the fact that it was, obviously, heavy as shit. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The roads out there are magnificent. The Porsche would be a ton of fun and would get you anywhere you would realistically go in the Jeep, short of off-road of course.

Curious - are you implying that you can rent a Boxster for the same price as a Wrangler? If so, from whom?! Very tempted.

I know I'm late to the party but I vote jeep. if you are going to a national park you are there for the park. you will get a much more tactile experience in the Jeep even if it never touches dirtand you won't be so focused on the car your driving to give you a more pleasant park experience. plus Wranglers are fun in their own way.

I used to live in hume lake, its off the 180. I used to drive both 180 and 198 alot! All i can say is the roads are fun. I have driven my corrado, talon, mrs and my sti up there! It was always a blast. Since i lived up that way and seen every thing, it was fun for fast night drives. But if its your first time going up there, take a jeep! You can do a lot more! Ps the park rangers suck!
